Thursday and Friday, February 5 and 6, 2009

School Announcements: Tonight is the night--join us for the Evening of Indulgence from 6:30-8:30 PM!

Have a great weekend, and thanks to all for your business! We are having a good time, and settling into our school after just three months. We have learned a lot, and the kids are showing us where we need to make some logistical improvements.

Highlights from the Infant Room: On Thursday, the children exercised and stretched with Caprice. This involved stretching, standing, and sitting, then moving back to a standing position. Everyone sat in "circle" and read an entire book of nursery rhymes! Everyone loved the bright, colorful pages. The kids sang and clapped with Caprice, and the children moved their arms and smiled. Songs included "You are my Sunshine" and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". Caprice played the bell kit, and the kids love the sounds.

Alex travels all over the classroom and is pulling himself up. He likes to see his brother and the other older children. Gage has learned to roll from his back to his tummy! Caprice has been working on signs with the children. Alex and Ali both made the sign for "more". We are also working on "milk" and "all done". Emma loves to sleep with the stuffed toy snake coiled around her!

On Friday, Caprice played the xylophone and read nursery rhymes to the children. Caprice played music on the xylophone by ear to a fairy CD. There are always songs, and lots of language in the infant room!

Highlights from the Toddler Room: On Thursday, the class enjoyed a wagon ride to see the animals and Orion said "Abby". The group practiced signs. They read a favorite, Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?. Orion, Luke, and Vivian had a great time playing in the tunnel. The like to throw shoes in the tunnel and retrieve them. Jack is becoming more confident cruising. Go Jack!

On Friday, the class has been playing patty cake. The group sang "You are my Sunshine". At AM Snack and Lunch, Janie signed "eat", "more", and "all done" with the children. The kids loved outside time this AM. Vivian is giving her friends hugs, Maya is blowing kisses, Jack is pulling up on everything and cruising, and Luke, normally so patient, is toying with throwing half-hearted tantrums.

Highlights from the Twos Room: The Twos classroom is coming together with Gayelynn. They are learning to clean up their toys after play, put away their nap mats, and take their blankets to their cubbies. They love to read picture books, especially farm animal picture books. They know how to make each sound! Every once in a while, there is a bite in the classroom. A reminder that this is common in this age group because they don't have always have language to express their feelings, or to shout "Stop!" or "That's mine". Biting can also occur when children are happy or very excited--a hug can even turn into a much sometimes. We are keeping our eyes out and catching many bites before they happen. Thank you for your understanding as our group moves through this phase.

Highlights from the PreK: We continued work on our caterpillars this week, gluing on their eyes. Next week we will finish them up with some tissue paper decoration to their segments. We enjoyed farm walks. We worked on letters that are "mountains" and turned them into pictures. We continued exploring the "Little Red Riding Hood" tale. We had a good couple of days!
