Following the lead of Leander ISD, The Good Earth Day School will open with a two hour delay on Friday, February 4, 2011. Children may be dropped off as early as 9:00 AM. Stay warm and enjoy the rare occurence of snow in Central Texas!

Following the lead of Leander ISD, The Good Earth Day School will be opening on a 2 hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, February 3, 2011. Children can be dropped off beginning at 9 AM. Stay warm tonight!

Merry Fairy May Festival!

“The Good Earth Day School partners with Hill Country Ministries Food Pantry”LEANDER, TX

– The Good Earth Day School is holding their annual Merry Fairy May Festival on Saturday, May 15th from 10:00am to 1:00pm. This year the school is partnering with Hill Country Ministries Food Pantry, an affiliate of Capital Area Food Bank. Anyone donating two healthy non-perishable food items will receive $1 off the standard $3 price of admission.

"With the economy still struggling, we want to give back to the community that supports our local business by helping restock the food pantry which is currently at a critically low level," said Leslie Castaneda, Owner of The Good Earth Day School.

Bring your little woodland elf, fairy or gnome to the festival at the farm. In addition to our usual miniature horse, donkey, pigs, goats and other farm friends there will be pony rides, games, face painting, concessions and more for the whole family to enjoy. The mission of The Good Earth Day School is to provide a high-quality early childhood education to children ages three months to 5 years of age in a home-like setting. Activities now absent from most urban children’s lives are a key part of the curriculum, including: cooking, gardening, outdoor exploration, sewing, woodworking, caring for animals, and housekeeping. The Good Earth Day School attempts to educate the whole child, touching the child’s heart and will besides his/her intellect.

Delayed Opening for Wednesday, Feb. 24

We will follow the Leander ISD delayed opening schedule for tomorrow, Wednesday, February 24. We will open at 9:00 AM. Operating hours will be from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

In the event that Leander ISD goes on to cancel school for the district, we, too, will cancel school. Please be advised that we will update the blog, voicemail as well as send an email communication should school be cancelled tomorrow.

School Potluck Family Dinner, Friday, September 25 After School

Please don't forget to join us for a school potluck family dinner on Friday, September 25, 2009 after school. School will be providing hot bread prepared by "Friday's children" as well as drinks and all utensils, plates, cups, etc.

Please watch for a sign-up on the school doors this week. Don't forget to bring chairs and blankets.

We were visited by a real renegade!

It's been a while since our last post. Giving life to two new "businesses"--swim lessons and a farmer's market--plus running a very small summer camp for our older friends proved to be a lot more than we thought in terms of time and energy. If you ask Tina and Janie, that's always the case with me though. I am trying very hard to temper my Sagitarrian ways and enjoy the fruits of our labor as they come rather than focusing on the next big thing.

The fruits this summer have been: a quiet school; a delicious week's vacation; yummy eggs from our chickens; beef, pork, vegetables, natural body products, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and massage most Saturdays at the market; a wonderful staff; and contact with nature! In fact, yesterday we were surprised by a visit from farm neighbor the "Food Renegade". She was kind to feature her family's trip to our market on her blog:

We will offer these evenings the first Friday of each month—a time to refresh before starting the weekend with your family. Going forward, we will provide not only the opportunity to enjoy our relaxing services, but also time to enjoy a glass of Texas wine and snacks around a chiminea under our beautiful trees.
